Prickly pear seeds oil

The prickly pear cactus is an emblematic plant of arid regions, known for its exceptional resilience and botanical richness.

Prickly pear seeds, desert treasure

At the heart of the prickly pear fruit lie true gems: the seeds, small hard grains nestled within the juicy pulp of the fig. These seeds are the source of a rare and precious ingredient, used for generations for its exceptional properties.

After harvest, the fruits are opened and their seeds carefully extracted, washed, and dried. They are then ready to be used for various applications: cold-pressed to produce one of the most precious oils in the world.

Manufacturing Prickly pear seeds oil

A single prickly pear, weighing around 160 grams, contains up to 300 seeds. It is from these seeds that prickly pear seed oil is extracted. Slowly pressed using a stone mill according to an ancestral traditional method, the seeds yield an oil of exceptional quality. This artisanal process takes time: about 8 hours of pressing are needed to obtain just one liter.

The oil thus extracted is virgin, pure, and unrefined. It is simply filtered to remove solid residues, without undergoing any thermal or chemical treatment. Its fragrance is delicately fruity, with subtle notes of roasted hazelnut. Extremely rare, this precious oil requires nearly a ton of prickly pears to yield 35 kg of seeds, producing barely one liter of oil, making it the most expensive vegetable oil in the world.
