Lemon
Lemon, an exceptional and protective composition
Lemon is the fruit of the lemon tree, a shrub of the rutaceae family. The essential oil is extracted from its bark. Indeed, the often neglected lemon peel is a valuable source of active ingredients when consumed properly.
Making lemon essential oil
Lemon essential oil is extracted by cold pressing from the outer part of the rind (zest) of a fresh lemon, which makes it strictly speaking not an essential oil but simply an essence. Lemon essential oil is obtained by expressing the fresh zest of the fruit.
Properties of lemon peel essential oil
Lemon zest contains flavonoids, antioxidants (vitamin A, C, E), and certain trace elements such as zinc, copper and selenium. Lemon peel is recommended to fight against oxidative stress. The mesocarp, its main active component, is used in the treatment of cancer, as it slows down the growth of certain tumors and metastases. It is also an antiseptic which has rejuvenating and astringent properties.
