Botany:
Jojoba is a thick, bushy shrub from arid and semi-arid regions. It can grow up to 5 metres in height. It is a taproot plant; this main root anchors and stores the plant's reserves. This root system of the jojoba maintains soil stabilisation. It also provides the plant with resistance to severe drought conditions, so much so that it can withstand a year and a half without water. The leaves are oval, leathery and hairy on both sides. The young leaves are soft green or grey and then turn greenish yellow.
Manufacturing:
In a screw press, the healthy and cleaned fruits are pressed in the first cold pressure, without any solvent or chemical intervention. The oil is then successively filtered on blotting paper. The oil is then stored away from light and heat.
Properties:
Jojoba is of great interest because the oil extracted from its fruits contains more than 40% of unsaponifiable substances. It is ideal for combination to oily skin as it is a perfect sebum regulator. Thanks to its excellent skin compatibility, jojoba oil can be used as a bath oil or massage oil. A powerful antioxidant, it also restores suppleness and softness to the skin. It is unique in the plant kingdom as it is a liquid wax. Its composition allows it to reinforce the hydrolipidic film after several applications. It is therefore widely used for its emollient properties.
