Botany:
Peppermint oil, refreshing and energizing, is produced by steam distillation of the herb. Menthol, naturally abundant in peppermint, has a cooling and warming effect on the skin. Stimulating for the scalp and energizing during the massage. It has been used to treat asthma, digestive and skin issues, exhaustion, sinuses, colds and flu, headaches, motion sickness, nausea and dizziness. Peppermint oil combines well with oils of the herbaceous variety, geranium, lemon, tea tree and orange.
Fabrication :
The leaves of the peppermint plant can be used to produce peppermint essential oil, which has several uses. It has a similar taste and a strong, refreshing smell. You may be familiar with the cooling sensation that follows eating peppermint flavoured foods.
Menthol and menthone are the two main chemical components in peppermint oil. But there are also many others.
Properties :
Many people use peppermint oil to reduce redness and soothe itchy skin. However, it should always be diluted before being applied to the skin. The National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy recommends combining 3-6 drops of the essential oil with 1 ounce (oz) of carrier oil, such as Huile Précieuse or Massage Oil. To rule out any allergic reactions, test a small amount of diluted oil on the forearm before using.
