Botany:
Calendula or marigold is also called "the bride of the sun" because it follows the movements of the sun. Calendula has a downy stem and yellow flowers. The plant originates from the Mediterranean basin and has been cultivated since the 12th century in all areas with a temperate climate where it requires no maintenance. It has been used since antiquity in natural medicine to treat various ailments (soothing menstrual pain, conjunctivitis and fever), but it is nowadays used most in dermatology.
Manufacturing:
In order to extract its oil in the best possible way, the healthy, cleaned seeds are cold-pressed using an auger, then its extract is filtered on blotting paper. The Calendula macerate is prepared in an argan oil base to enhance its properties.
Properties:
In phytotherapy, it is said to have calming and healing properties. Calendula oil contains flavonoids, carotenoids, triterpendioles, saponosides, miclage and essential oils. It has anti-inflammatory properties that promote healing. A dermal antioxidant, it is also an effective sun protection. Its main added value is its antibacterial and healing action on small skin infections such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, mycosis, but also small burns and insect bites. This macerate is particularly moisturising and has a soothing effect on the skin.
